Hazardous substances are dangerous. It\u2019s best to keep them contained.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our industrial economy depends on hazardous substances. Whether it\u2019s fuel, industrial chemicals or paint, none of us are ever far away from some kind of hazardous substance. When these are stored or transported in bulk quantities, the risks posed can be significant, so it\u2019s important that storage and transportation be done in vessels that are fit for purpose.<\/p>\n

Because of the risks involved with hazardous substances, how they are stored and moved is tightly regulated. Tanks used to store bulk hazardous substances, and tankers used to transport them, must be independently verified and certified by a WorkSafe-approved compliance certifier.<\/p>\n

  • Tank design compliance certificate<\/strong> \u2013 a certification that a particular tank design satisfies the regulations. Usually based on review of design documentation \u2013 drawings, producer statements etc.<\/li>\n
  • Stationary container compliance certificate<\/strong> \u2013 a certification that a particular installation complies with the regulations. Usually based on an inspection of the installation.<\/li>\n
  • Tank wagon design compliance certificate<\/strong> \u2013 a certificate that a tank wagon design satisfies the regulations. Based on review of design documentation.<\/li>\n
  • Tank wagon pre-commissioning certificate<\/strong> \u2013 a certificate asserting that the construction and marking of a tank wagon satisfy the regulations. Typically based on a physical inspection.<\/li>\n
  • Tank wagon in-service certificate<\/strong> \u2013 tank wagons are required to be re-inspected and re-certified at two-year intervals, to ensure that they are still compliant with the regulations. This is based on an inspection.<\/li>\n
  • Approved fabricator certificate<\/strong> \u2013 a certification that a particular fabricator has the capability, tools, and processes to manufacture tanks or trailer tanks to the required quality standard. This allows manufacturers to serially-produce approved tank designs, rather than every single tank needing to be inspected and certified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>
