css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1773361503459{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}&#8221;]Eaton approached Motovated to provide seismic assessment of two electrical cabinets for use in Australia and New Zealand.\u00a0 The cabinets had been shake-table tested in accordance with Chinese standards which are not directly referenced by the New Zealand or Australian Building Codes.\u00a0 As a result, an alternative method for determining compliance was developed which involved comparing the test response spectra (TRS) used during the testing with the spectral shape factors referenced in the earthquake standards referenced by the codes.\u00a0 Along with Ultimate Limit State compliance, serviceability requirements were also assessed by testing the functionality of the cabinets before and after the testing was carried out.[\/vc_column_text]<div id=\"ultimate-heading-42456a633c75cb11d\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-42456a633c75cb11d uvc-9198  uvc-heading-default-font-sizes\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-42456a633c75cb11d h3'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h3 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#0F204B;margin-bottom:30px;\">Solution<\/h3><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]To determine the earthquake regions the cabinets were suitable for, the TRS of the tests were overlayed onto the spectral shape factors stated in the relevant earthquake loading standards.\u00a0 This allowed us to directly compare how the testing compared with expected earthquakes in New Zealand and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Of critical importance was to ensure that the testing covered the range where the natural frequency of the cabinets lay to account for resonance effects under the design earthquake accelerations.\u00a0 As the cabinets are symmetrical about two axis\u2019 the testing also needed to be done in two separate directions.<\/p>\n<p>For these particular tests the TRS and spectral shape factor profiles stated in standards differed at low periods (high frequencies).\u00a0 As this also corresponds to the region of the curves where the natural frequencies of the cabinets occurred, the allowable seismic zones the cabinets could be installed in were adjusted so the tested curve covered the critical ranges.[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"ult-spacer spacer-6a633c75cb12d\" data-id=\"6a633c75cb12d\" data-height=\"20\" data-height-mobile=\"20\" data-height-tab=\"20\" data-height-tab-portrait=\"\" data-height-mobile-landscape=\"\" style=\"clear:both;display:block;\"><\/div><div id=\"ultimate-heading-44516a633c75cb138\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-44516a633c75cb138 uvc-9251  uvc-heading-default-font-sizes\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div
